Ad-hoc cargo at Cargo Center Billund:
A will to make a difference..
Among the strongpoints of Cargo Center Billund is “ a will to make a difference” – and a high degree of flexibility, if one leading airfreight forwarder’s words are to be taken at face value.
-Over the years, we generate quite a number of ad-hoc cargo flights, including not least humanitarian freighter operations where flexibility is the crucial parameter. And this is fully secured in our relations with Cargo Center Billund, says Ole Lyngshede Lund, Scan Global Head of Department.
-Needless to say, humanitarian operations always come unexpectedly, calling for action without prior notice. Flexibility is especially required as to the timing of arrivals of the relief materials that may have to be released from bonded warehouses and transported from various providers into the airport. All work is performed at high stress levels, permits must be obtained from various authorities – and yet the entire chain of work processes must eventually fall into place right up to the loading and dispatching of the freighter.
-I have to say that we have never experienced any issue or problem delaying the dispatch of the aircraft at the agreed and scheduled time! And this is thanks to the attitude prevailing among all staff at Cargo Center Billund: they have a will to make a difference and are dedicated to make things possible whatever the challenges. Contributing to the successful operation is also the fact that the team that starts the job is also the team that eventually closes the case, says Mr Lund.
Over the years, Billund Airport has accumulated rich experience with all types of ad-hoc freighter operations driven by e.g. oil and gas industries, exporters of heavy and out-size machinery, temperature-sensitive shipments, live animals, and humanitarian organizations – all requiring special attention and a high degree of professionalism.
The airport is certified for handling of any type of freighter aircraft, fully equipped with all pertinent GSE and manned by a dedicated staff ready for the job 24/7 365 days of the year and on the alert to be called in at short notice.
In addition, all authorities are geared to cooperating with Billund Airport to clear up any issue concerning approvals, permits, customs, security and documentation, securing smooth handling when time is crucial.
Operators will also find dedicated office space and communication facilities for forwarders, as well as rest areas and service facilities for freighter crews.
Billund Airport is close to major harbors with international shipping lines and Denmark’s largest rail cargo center, and adjoining the cross-roads between the main transcontinental North-South Highway system to and from Germany and the East-West highway system through Denmark to the rest of the Nordic and Baltic regions. And Billund Airport’s cargo community integrates forwarders, customs, police, road hauliers and other service providers within a unified and easily accessible environment.
